Drinking sufficient water is vital for the survival and health of both humans and
animals. The bodies of all animals consist largely out of water. As such, water is the
most frequently given essential nutrient to livestock animals. In fact, water is used
in almost every chemical process in the body. Amongst these vital functions are
temperature regulation, the lubrication of joints, pH regulation, digestion, hydrolysis
and energy production.
Yet the importance of water for the growth and health of
animals is often underestimated in livestock farming, isn’t water always… just water?
